Christopher Barretta Sr., age 48, and his 18-year-old son Christopher Barretta Jr, both of the Town of Orange in New Haven County, were caught on the video on Wednesday, Jan. 6 in Fairfield County, said Shelton Police Det. Richard Bango.

The case stems from a call the Shelton Police Department received from a Shelton homeowner who was not at home at the time but was watching his video surveillance cameras remotely.

The homeowner informed the dispatcher that two men forcefully broke into his garage and then backed their truck in and closed the door, Bango said.

The homeowner said he was actively watching the two men load the back of their truck with items from his garage while on the phone with the dispatcher.

Two Shelton officers responded to the home and when they announced their presence from the driveway outside of the garage, Barrettad Sr drove his truck through the closed garage door, nearly missing an officer and his vehicle in the driveway, Bango said.

A short pursuit ensued and the two men were able to elude police. The truck was later discovered abandon in the back yard of a nearby house.

Detectives executed a search warrant after an investigation and were able to build a case against both the father and son.

On Tuesday, Feb. 2, Barretta Jr was arrested and charged with burglary and larceny. He was released on a $10,000 bond.

On Wednesday, Feb. 3, Barretta Sr was apprehended and charged with:

  • Burglary
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Criminal mischief
  • Larceny

Barretta Sr was also released on a $10,000 bond.

This investigation is still ongoing.
